Love Bug Math

While keeping with the Valentine's Day theme, we decided to sneak in a  little number sense with 2 digit addition.
Each student made a two digit addition love bug. We counted by 2s (eyes). We added, how many red + Pink + Purple love bugs.
Their dots are suppose to be hearts. Don't you just love first grade:)
We use Singapore Math so they represented the part, part whole and showed it with their number sentence. Who knew they would be so great at regrouping!!!

Super Bowl Math Challenge

Super Bowl Math Day

We had a great day with our Super Bowl Math theme!
First, we played a friendly game of "Quarterback Sneak".

It was so much fun!

Next, we put on our thinking caps to play Football Digit Detective.

Don't forget "Touchdown", it was a game that kept us guessing at who the winner would be!

Fast 10's was one of our favorites!

Next to come, our Word Problem Team Challenge!

Mrs. Schmitt announces the winner of the IXL Math Challenge! And the winner is......

Team Fortenberry Wins!!!!

What amazing mathematicians!

Groundhog Day

First....Then.....Last
Groundhog Day Writing

We worked with sequencing and predictions.

We each predicted what would happen on Groundhog's Day.

I wounder if he will be right? He did see his shadow....six more weeks of winter.
Isn't he cute???

Found this idea on the "First Grade Fever" Blog. Soooooo Creatively cute!!
